Requirements for Lithium Batteries or Products that Contain Lithium Batteries
Following the guidelines for shipping lithium batteries or products that contain lithium batteries will help ensure that your shipments can be processed smoothly at the fulfillment center and that your customer orders arrive on time.
Products that are, ship with, or contain lithium batteries are considered hazardous materials (Hazmat) and must follow the regulations specified by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and theU.S. Department of Transportation (DOT).
Amazon complies with the following regulations when shipping lithium batteries:
- U.S. Department of Transportation
- United States Postal Service
- IATA’s Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR)
- IATA’s Lithium Batteries Guidance
- ICAO’s Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air
In order to comply with the regulations, Amazon requires that you provide the following information about your products:
- Battery type (for example, alkaline or NiMh, lithium ion, lithium metal)
- Number of cells
- Lithium battery packaging (battery only, standalone, battery contained in equipment, battery packed with equipment)
- Lithium battery weight (grams)
- Lithium battery Energy Content (Watt hours or Wh)
When you add a listing that includes products that are, ship with, or contain lithium batteries, make sure that you provide all of the above information. This information will be used for Hazmat review to ensure proper shipping and handling. Any missing information may restrict or delay your orders. If you don’t have this information available, contact the manufacturer or the supplier. To modify the product offer details, on the Manage Inventory page (sign-in required), in the Actions column, click Edit details.
